: '70s in suburban New Jersey. He started
: taking pictures around the age of 10, at the

: impaired. His hearing worsened, and by 20 he
: was profoundly deaf.

: Institute for the Deaf, Willard earned a
: bachelor's degree in photography from the
: Rochester Institute of Technology in 1985.
: He went on to establish and direct Deaf
: Artists of America, a national nonprofit
: organization.

: Angeles Council on Deafness (GLAD) for two
: years while living in California. He and his
