Posted by issue11isthebest on 8/4/2006, 7:05 pm, in reply to "Praise and a problem..." For me, it's Deadpool's losses that make his book a really enjoyable read (although I totally dig how he's kicked the crud out of Wolverine so many times). Would he really be that interesting if he beat EVERYONE he fought? I don't think so, because one of his selling premises is that he's a loser with snappy banter. That's just my opinion, though. For the record, if any Kevin Smith fans are reading, I think we've got just the guy to play DP: The guy who played "Randell" (don't know his name). Funny, but he probably would have to hit the gym. Opinions? --Previous Message--

I hear what your saying, and I've been a fan of DP since New Mutants #90-something, but one thing that has always made DP a better character to read about than anyone else in the Marvel Universe is that you already now he's the Universe's dumping ground. I've always thought of him as the Al Bundy (from the show "Married With Children")of the superhero world. As such, you end up having more empathy/sympathy/whatever for him. Yeah, Captain Marvel can slug it out with Galactus, but can he make a good gay joke in the middle of a fire-fight?
: First of all, I would like to state that I
: have bought every issue of the series, and
: will continue to do so. I've enjoyed the
: stories so far, even the House of M tie-ins,
: and the current Civil War storyline looks to
: be one of the best yet.
:
: Though I do have one small problem with the
: way Deadpool is being handled. While I don't
: mind the buffoonery - a major aprt of the
: character is his sense of humor - I feel
: like it's being taken to ridiculous heights,
: even for Deadpool. I mean, he's getting his
: butt handed to him in every fight - he lost
: to the GLA (X? C?), for Chrissakes. He's
: supposed to be one of the world's premiere
: mercenaries, but we're not seeing anything
: in the series that would support that
: theory. Can we please see Deadpool being a
: badass again? Even for a little while?
: Pretty please?
