it was scored by coleridge-taylor perkinson who also did "education of sonny carson" and "warm december" and "amazing grace". I have sonny carson on vinyl (i am digitizing right now) and I am looking for the others--hope this helps. by the way, sonny carson was just re-released on DVD.Beautiful soundtrack. Pwerful Movie. Perkinson is director of the center for black music research. any search by his name will pull it up. good luck.
