Posted by Paul/FL The clerk's do not validate, critique or otherwise correct the notary certificate. The just take the money, assign the book and page, stamp the original, scan or copy the document and be done with it.

No one. That's the problem. I have seen so many deeds and mortgages with improper notarization certificates that I just wonder why have the statute in the first place. Deeds have been recorded without the county in the venue, no date in the certificate, no name of the signer and no printed name of the notary. I also have seen one where the seal was smeared so bad, it could not be read. However, they all have been recorded.
