Sylvia, I have seen this topic brought up quite a few times in the past years and I wanted to get your opinion on it, especially since lately it seems more and more people are offering tips and more notaries are accepting them. I assumed that when we are sent to do a closing we are paid by the person that "hires" us (and we agreed upon this amount therefore it should be a fair wage) so accepting a tip from a borrower is not a professional thing to do. I have been offered tips, but each time I have thanked the borrower and said that I was paid "well" for my work and therefore the tip was not necessary. If they insisted I still said "no thank you". I am referring to actual cash and not the jars of homemade jam etc. How do you feel about this?
