Sylvia I've come across an Unusual "title" on docs

I have the documents for my closing on and this is a first for me. The borrower, only, is signing on all of the paperwork, but his name is listed as everyone's always is and then there is a comma and it says individually. Even in the mortgage it states "John Doe, an unmarried man" and below the signature line lists John Doe, individually. I know if he is a Jr. or Sr. or III he would sign this way. However, he is not to sign "individually" at the end is he ? I've done only about 1000 closings and haven't run across this but guess I can still learn something new every day.
