Posted by Helen on August 24, 2004, 12:25 am So how are you???? Have spent 2 days resting after my massive 7 days of skiing....what hard work but what FUN!!! Words cannot come close to explaining how terrific, great and absolutely brilliant my first time at the snow was. I actually stayed at a lodge right on the snow at Perisher....with 15 other people!!! Excellent Fun!! I was so spoilt the lodge was just terrific...I mean I could walk out the front door and right at my feet was mounds, piles and even heaps of snow....no catching the ski tube to get to the snow for me. And according to the people I was hanging out with the week I spent at the snow was the best in years....heaps of snow, sun shining, fresh snow falling, good visibility, minimal wind......PERFECTO!! I was the beginner of the group thats for sure everyone else were doing black runs, etc......the stories of their exploits were very amusing......and somewhat disconcerting for me to listen to. Being the physically challenged person that I am with the co-ordination of a 6 month old and the agility of a pregnant elephant I took a good couple of days to get the hang of things....by the third day I could manage to stay upright for the full 2 hour lesson....getting up from a fall just posed too many difficulties.....initially the only way I could get up was to roll over onto my stomach, spread-eagle my legs and push myself up.....lucky for me I had no illusions that I needed to impress the gorgeous instructor I had and any guy I was trying to impress definitely wasn't skiing on the beginners slopes...so I just relaxed into the lessons. By the end of 5 days of lessons I had buddied up with a couple of people from my group and we kept skiing together.....we even assisted some "beginner"....yep we were in the special ed group but we still managed to assist other worse then us....amazing!!! The after hours activities were also great.....one night on dusk we went tobogganing (???spelling)....hurtling down a very steep hill on a piece of plastic with trees/poles rushing towards you..was it fun????? Hell yeah....excellent.....the worst part was having to walk up the hill.....just about killed me!! We also had a snow cave built that could fit 4 adults in....could even stand up......bloody amazing.....took the guys about 4 hours to build. We cooked up an amazing feast every night....the food was vey delicious!!! As were the pre-dinner snacks every night. I especially enjoyed the beverages that were on offer..............."Snapacinos" - coffee laced with Butterscotch Snaps, "Baileys Slushies" - glass full of fresh snow plastered with baileys straight up.....bloody excellent taste sensations. But the best part of the week was spending it in the company of some unreal people....people who didn't really know me but just accepted me into the group like I had been there forever....they were simply the best and yeah well great, fantastically beautiful people....what a blessing my week was!! Anyway....still have 1 weeks holiday left....going to visit family out at Wagga Wagga.....having huge roast chicken dinner tonight at the "farm".......yummy!!! Take care and all the rest....love ya heaps Helen
