Celebrating the Health of Latino Families in Humboldt County
You are invited to a celebration for Spanish-speaking families in Humboldt County. “Celebrating our Health / Festejando Nuestra Salud” a health fair for Spanish speakers, will take place Sunday, October 19th from 12pm to 4pm. It will take place at Eureka Adult School, 674 Allard Avenue in Eureka. Call the Newcomer Center at 441-2462 for more information.
“Celebrating Our Health” is a chance for the whole family to have fun while getting important health information. The day will include:
•Free food
•Music from the band Nueva Ilusión and DJ Guajiro
•Traditional folk dancers from Eureka High School
•Children’s games and activities, including free pony rides from Heart of the Redwoods Horse Rescue
•Free health screenings for cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, HIV/AIDS
•General health and resource information
•Free fluoride varnish clinic for kids
•A free bike helmet and safety check for kids that bring their bikes
“Celebrating Our Health” is one of many activities planned for Binational Health Week. This year Binational Health Week is October 6th-15th. Binational Health Week has become one of the largest efforts in the Americas to improve the health and well-being of underserved immigrants and migrants of Latin American origin living in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
“Celebrating Our Health” is sponsored by: the Union Labor Health Foundation, Rita’s Mexican Grill, First 5 Humboldt, St. Joseph’s Health Care System, La Nueva 1090, College of the Redwoods, and LatinoNET.
The mission of LatinoNET is to improve the quality of life for Spanish-speaking families on the North Coast.
