Generally, if your life was at risk, the surgery was required, and afterward the hospital needed to contact the insurance company if they didn't contact them before that. Or you would have needed to, but you were probably unable to do so for several days due to your condition. If your insurance company is no help on this, go directly to the hospital and ask them if they could review your bill and reduce it. How long after your colonoscopy did you go to the hospital? Did you see another doctor at a clinic because you didn't feel well, or did you go directly to the hospital?
