I had a colonoscopy today and was told that I'd be sedated and that I wouldn't care what they did. I'm not sure of the drugs that were given, but I was told that it was the max dose that I could be given. I suspect it was the max dose that could be given w/o an anesthesiologist present, but the drugs did NOT work!! I wasn't drowsy during or after the procedure and could have driven myself home. It was a horrible procedure from the time the scope went in until it came out. I was writhing in pain. My doc asked me if I wanted him to stop, but I"m thinking, "I did all that prep and you're already in there - you might as well finish what you started". He didn't even get to finish the procedure because I was in such pain, but claimed that he saw all he needed to see and gave me a diagnosis that I won't disagree with because that's why I had the test in the first place. Anyway, I won't do this procedure again unless I'm in a hospital setting and under a general anesthetic.
