Posted by Ned While the procedure itself was not without a some discomfort (they needed to get to the ascending colon to take out polyps identified on a barium enema) it was certainly tolerable. The drugs helped but I was conscious throughout and did not sleep at all afterwards. My advise to those worrying about the procedure is try to not worry (hard to do, I realize). Certainly be informed about the procedure but don't do what I did which was to read too much. With regard to the preparation. This was the easiest I've ever experienced (I've had to prepare 3 times previously). Taking the advise of others on this forum, I tried to eat more lightly and blandly a day or two in advance. The treatment required, among other things, taking milk of magnesia two nights before the procedure (i.e. night before the no solid food day). I think this really helped making it more tolerable.

I had my colonoscopy done earlier this week. After weeks of anxiety & worry about the procedure, what they might find, how I would tolerate the preparation regimen, etc., I'm relieved to report that the overall experience was fine. I arrived at the hospital at 1:30 and left at 4:00.
