Went to VA hospital 9 days ago for colonoscopy. A friend went along because they would not admiot me without a driver. When on table, I told doc to not give me a sedative just because I know from experience that recovering from a sedate d state takes alot of time. I told him that if I nedded sedating, I'd let him know. I went through entire procedure with NO sedation. It was like a sigmoid but took alot longer. It had it's discomforts but it was not that bad. I watched every inch of my colon on the tube. It was in perfect condition. I am 55. I was happier than flies on a cow pie that I had no problems. The worst part was drinking a gallon of that crap they give you. It took me 5 hours to finally get it all down. I was able to drive home by myself since I had no sedative. Recovery from not eating for 3 days prior and shock to body from all that probimg took 4 days. I went to work the next day and came home 1 1/2 hours later. I stayed home for the next 3 days. In 10 years, when I have another colonscope, I will again elect to not be sedated. The Sacramento VA docs were great and explained every inch of the way. Post-op nurses were equally as wonderful. You just have to have the best docs for the best experience.
