Posted by Casey on 8/22/2005, 9:50 am, in reply to "Re: Colonoscopy-awake throughout procedure!" There should NOT be pain in this procedure. If there is, you were not given proper medication/medication levels. You had a lousy doctor who doesn't want to spend money on medications and who doesn't want to medicate patients because that lengthens the time they spend at the facility which means they can't get as many people in and out in a day. They also don't want to take the time to care for the patient. Medications and time cost money, and money is this doc's main goal. Also, if you said you were in pain and the opposite was noted on your chairt, you have grounds for a formal complaint. And I think apathy isn't quite far enough--you were hurt needlessly--abused, in fact. Docs like these need to be reined in and stopped. They will just get bolder in their complete disregard for the patient. You're right--when a patient is given a sedative, it won't make them more comfortable: It will only delay and hamper their efforts to escape from pain. The next time anyone talks "sedative" to me, I am going to run. I was lied to about this procedure also. I asked all the questions I was supposed to ask, and the answers were good ones. Too bad most of them weren't followed.

This kind of treatment should be reported to the facility manager where you had the procedure. You should also talk directly with the doctor. Don't let this guy get away with being so inhumane.
