It's really a fun read, and it sparked me to watch the movie again after....15 years? The movie does pretty faithfully reflect the book, though they had to cut out a number of characters -- most notably the black family (Big George, his mother, and his wife and kids) and others associated with them. That would have taken at least another hour of film. Actually, they would make another whole film easily! I do think the movie was very well-cast, especially Mary Stuart Masterson as Idgie.
