Posted by Nick Frese Men on first and third, one out. Batter hits a ROPE towards first. The ball slams into the runner's back and pops straight up in the air. The firstbaseman catches the ball in the air. The runner at third had broken on contact and was almost across the plate. Our firstbaseman calmly throws the ball across the diamond to third and we claim a doubleplay. What was the correct ruling?? I'll tell you what the umpire ruled, and what the correct ruling should have been later (if you don't figure it out for yourselves). Happy Halloween!

Just thought you guys would enjoy this little gem that happened back in my softball (slow pitch) playing days back in the 1980s -- before I came back to baseball.
