I think its rediculous the amount of power landlords had over their workers/sharecroppers. They had so much power that they controlled when the children went to school and when they couldn't. FDR tried to help the situation by paying farmers to destroy their crops. The government would send the farmers a check and the farmers where then supposed to give some money to their sharecroppers. However, FDR's plan backfired. Most of the time the farmers wouldn't give their workers any money at all and if they did it usually wasn't enough to survive on.
