As I was reading the assignments for Tuesday, I have came to the conclusion that as the society was supposed to progress into this new industrialized world, racism progressed as well. African Americans could be referred to as "the last hired and first fired", meaning that they would be the last person(s) to be chosen for a job, but the first person(s) fired when push came to shove. Even for the African Americans that "retained their jobs faced competition from unemployed whites who had previously considered positions like waiter and porter beneath them." How can the society improve with racism still progressing???
