During the New Deal FDR struggled to try to make sure that people had the ability to build a sense of self worth by working for what they got. I only have a vague idea of the Great Society programs but they seemed to be more based on a hand me out system. I think the scaling back and poor funding that we see is due to abuses and loopholes that have been shown as present in these systems which prevents them from truely helping all those who need the help. Due to my limited knownledge of the Great Society programs please correct me if I am wrong.
