I found DuBois' idea of self-segregation very interesting. It is something that has never crossed my mind before and probably many others' as well. DuBois wanted blacks to form "a nation within a nation". He brought up the idea of self segregation so that "by letting Negro farmers feed Negro artisans, and Negro technicians guide Negro home industries, and Negro thinkers pla this integration of cooperation... economic independence can be achieved." The whole idea of this nation within a nation is for African Americans to have their own economy and live within a nation of themselves. They believed that "seperate Negro sections would increase economic cooperation, orgainzed self-defense and necassary self-confidence."
