I found it very intersting on the parallels and similarities between the Cold war and our own War on Terrorism in the middle east. We are constantly portraying ourselves as the 'good' and we are fighting the 'evil'. The 'evil' then was communism and today it is terrorism but to the extent that the government went to try and scare the general public was also very interesting.
In my reading that i did for my groups mock trial the government was afraid of homosexuals. Not because they did not understand them but because homosexuals are communists. it said in my document that , "It is a known fact that homosexualiy goes back to the Orientals, lone before the time of Confucius; that the russians are strong believers in homosexuality..." and, "...homosexuals have been used by the communists." I found these two statements funny because our US government was worried that if people were gay then that meant they were communists.
The scare tactics are really interesting, feel free to post some more scare tactics the government used.
