I think there is evidence not to blame Reagan, but to suggest his policies WERE part of the problem. As I said in class, the tax breaks for the steel companies and other industries were no accident, the idea behind it was "trickle down," where if you give back money to the rich, it will trickle down to those without. The steel industry would make investment and more jobs would be created. But that never happened. In the quest for greed, people's lives were ruined. So a president's policies made this happen, in this case. Sometimes the good or the bad of an economy can't be blamed on the president, but if you look at what happened in this case, this is one case where the policy of the President produced this result.
