“We arm our friends in the region to help us protect our economic interests. And it just keeps backfiring.“ notes John Tirman. I dont understand why. As far as Afganistan and the Taliban, the CIA went to afganistan, trained and armed the militia to fight the solviets, and twenty seven years later we are fighting against the people we trained because they came on our soil and committed the worst terrorist attack our country has ever seen. Yes, we are protecting our economic interests, and we did leave Afganistan in a "bombed out, mine-filled and an extremely impoverished condition, with little infrastructure," but we helped the country not be controled by the Solviet Union who could have turned the country into the same state their country was in, which was not very good. This same situation is happening in Iraq. We went there to help the country discontinue being ruled by a dictator, we are still there to help rebuild the nation by training police officers to help keep order. We are helping to build a democratic government, yet they still keep killing themselves and our American soldiers. I have teachers that I disagree with, but I dont kill them because they are trying to teach me something that they know works.
