Adding to Mark's comment the U.S. has used its power to put many undemocratic rulers in power. We can see this not only with Iraq but also with Afghanistan (Osama bin Laden) and Cuba (Fidel Castro). The reality is the United States does not do what is in the best interest of the country it is helping but what is in best interest in a select few in the U.S. The reason for the first Iraq War was not to help the troubled people in Kuwait but to protect our oil interests in Kuwait.
