Posted by Rob Harris Please let me know by mid-December if any of your children are interested in playing -- I'd like to reserve a slot (or two) by 1/1/03. I'm going to touch base with Father D. to see if I can reserve a little gym time at St. William to avoid a few of the chilling January practices that we've had in the past. More info is attached below. ************************ Basketball News New Focus for Homeschool Basketball Tournament More Guaranteed Games * - Varsity teams are now guaranteed 4 games, JV teams increase to 3 games. Who is interested in participating in the 2003 Homeschooling Basketball Tournament? For the past two years, the 'Stafford Jets' have participated in the U-10 co-ed junior division. However, due to limited court time, the junior division has been combined with the Jr. High Division. So anyone 12 and under qualifies....I've copied/pasted the age cut-off below. Please note that there are no longer co-ed teams -- I'll have to get enough interest from both boys and girls. I know that a few of my original team members that graduated from the junior division (Rachel, Doug, Blaise...) are eligible again under this new age cut-off.
COME JOIN THE FUN!!!!

Expanded Hours
Emphasis on Varsity, JV Teams - HSPN tournaments are 'shifting' towards showcasing our varsity and JV talent by offering those teams more games and eventually longer games. This will make it easier to entice college scouts to attend. Ultimately, one day there will be a tournament just for Varsity and JV teams and a separate one for Middle School and younger ... (but not this year!)
Limited Number of Teams - Planned number of teams in each division makes scheduling easier for round-robin play.
Homeschool basketball teams interested in participating in the 6th Annual HSPN basketball tournament are encouraged to begin pre-registering. Because of the popularity of this event only a limited number of teams can be accepted (due to tournament schedule constraints).
As always, teams from other states are welcome to participate. Only 24 teams will be accepted on a first-come, first served basis. To date, 8 teams have pre-registered.
Certified referees from the Battlefield District are back by popular demand. These folks are very professional and received high praise from players, coaches and spectators from last year's tournament. All games (except JUNIOR Division) will be under the direction of these officials.

30-minute running clock with no halftime. This format has been used for the past 4 years and it seems to work out well. It allows us to keep 2 full-court games going at the same time all day long, and to ensure each team gets its guaranteed number of games. However, the length of game could be increased dependent upon number of teams per division.
Clock stops only during the last 2 minutes of the game for deadballs, timeouts, free throws, etc.
Each team is guaranteed 3 games, one of which will be played on Friday night.
Championship Round is for the top 2 teams in each division.
No warmups before game
No overtime in regular game, only in championship game
All basketball rules apply, including personal fouls, team fouls and technical fouls
