What a horrible tragedy for all of you! My heart goes out to you. I wish I were closer and could help out, but I am all the way in OH. You might try posting on some of the equine sale sights like Dreamhorse, Freehorseads, Horsetopia. On the Equine.com site if you click on the horse tab at the top, the next page has a tab for "free horses" you also might want to look at. Scroll through all the pages, I saw some listed in FL on about page 9 or 10. The best of luck to you.
: On the night of 9/4/06 there was a
: thunderstorm that ended up killing three
: horses at the seminole vocational education
: center in Florida. These horses were used in
: the education program affiliated with
: seminiole high school and were very
: essential to it. We started out originally
: with seven horses and now we are down to
: four. However, one of the four remaining
: horses is very old and one is now lame from
: the accident. The other two are harder to
: handle, therefore are not as good for
: beginners who are just getting used to being
: around horses. On the night of the accident,
: the three horses were in stalls that were
: connected to each other. Lightning struck
: our arabian, Sabel, and killed her
: instantly. Next the current traveled to
: Penny, a former show horse, throwing her
: from her stall and killing her. Then the
: current traveled to Abby, a white quarter
: horse, and since it wasn't as strong as in
: the beginning, left her convulsing until
: around 6:30 in the morning, when she was put
: down. These horses will be dearly missed and
: it is very hard to imagine our school
: without them. We are now in need of three
: more horses, that are trained well and
: considered sound around children. They would
: also be used in an after school riding club.
: However, we cannot afford to buy very
: expensive horses, so donations of any size
: would be greatly appreciated. Email Eryn for
: more information.
