Posted by Michael Mathews It was a great event which met or exceeded all our expections for action. The food left a bit to be desired but at least it was available. We (just 3e Cie) did a defilade at the village of Zbesov Friday night. We laid flowers at a chapel and two memorials then were treated to a magnificent party of hot wine, homemade sausages, pilsner, Kentucky Whiskey and some potent "firewater." We sang and danced, the mayor got out his accordian, and a wonderful time was had by all. I think if we had wanted we could have stayed the night. Language became no barrier (one person spoke excellent English but we still did well) The battle was huge, with pyrotechnics, burning buildings, cavalry melees that got personal, bayonet charges with fixed bayonets that turned into a soccar scrum, and at least one ramrod fired at us. We were on site from about 9:00 till 3:30 when the battle ended. Then after a break to another village for a nice reception, though not nearly as nice as Zbesov. Sunday we sort of attended the Act of Piety on top of the Pratzen Heights. Several units took off to storm up the slopes with volleys and bayonets. A fitting end to a most moving event. Credit to the organizers for taking care of the needs of so many. A challenge I would not relish. A few new nicknames were earned, but we'll keep them to ourselves for now. Mark Schneider seemed perfect as Napoleon, Sokolov is utterly mad or the ultimate drama queen, or both. We tried to ignore him in his role of Soult. BTW, there were 17 Yanks and 16 Brits composing the 21e, along with enough other units to make up the premier pelaton of about 90 which the 21e's Chris Perko commanded. I assisted the other sergents making the pelaton run, though I took time out to wack swords with a Russian officer during one melee. Lots more to tell, more messages coming. Vive l'Empereur et le Vingt-et-une! Michael Mathews, sergent-major

We have returned triumphant from the glorious anniversary of Napoleon's great victory. At least except for those who straggled for a few days to see more sites. Prague is marvelous, magical, and very affordable.
