BRIGADE NAPOLEON CAMPAIGN EVENT
DARROW’S BISON RANCH
SCHELLSBURG, PA
April 28-30, 2006
Brigade Napoleon will host a campaign style event at the Darrow Bison Ranch, 2 miles west of Shellsburg, Pa on US 30, April 28-30, 2006. The site is 1400 acres of rolling woodland, pastures, dirt roads, streams and open fields. Our hosts are Richard and Ann Darrow, fellow reenactors from the French and Indian War. The ground is the same that we used for the School of the Soldier held there in September 2005 and is perfect for all types of tactical maneuvers.
Set up will be any time during the day on Friday, April 28th. (Early set up possible, please indicate on registration form.) Follow the signs marked “BN Event” and “Camp Site” to the location. The site is accessible by vehicle either through the field or by farm lane. You can tent out or sleep under the stars, “ala campaign”. Be prepared for primitive camping including hauling water, cutting fire wood, leading horses to drink and other “necessities”. (Please bring plenty of containers for drinking water). No food services will be provided, units will be on their own for cooking. (If Allied Forces wish period rations, please include this information in your registration. They can be provided at minimal cost.) Hay and straw can be made available on site. Please note this in registration and we will get back to you on the cost.
The tactical will begin at day light on Saturday and last until sunset. Each side, French/French Allied and Coalition will have 3 separate objectives to accomplish during the day. Both sides will start the event from separate ends of the property, with the camp being out of bounds during the day. Accomplishing the objectives will involve contact with opposing forces and individual battles will result in casualties which are determined by a set of engagement rules. Troops should be prepared with 100 rounds of ammunition for infantry, 40 for cavalry. All troops need a haversack and a timepiece (this does not need to be period, any watch will do). Additionally nco’s and officers need a small note book for recording information. Officer’s may supply themselves with a compass and a glass.
Saturday night will be an opportunity for all to get together in camp for an evening of re-fighting the day’s battles and camaraderie.
Sunday morning there will be competition for both infantry and cavalry immediately following breakfast with an 11:00 am final ceremony before breaking down camp. Awards for the victors in the previous day’s tactical will be provided by Hussar Saddlery. The early conclusion will allow those who have longer distances to travel home to get an early start.
