Hi Pete:
Steve I. is a very good man, he however was a beginer when it came to horses. Also he was the only member of his unit, and was inactive with the Brigade.
My recommendation would be to join the 7eme Hussard, as they have more members and would be able to guide you better. You should find a riding stable near your home and start taking riding lessons. English style would be best as it teaches better basic and balance.
Please tell us about your self, where do you live, do you reenact any other periods?
