This is only my opinion. Start with taking a trail ride if you are a none rider if you like that then take basic lessons so that you know how to care for and ride the horse. If you like that continue your journey. I suggest one does not attempt to do dismounted hussards as that was the ultimate sin and is frowned upon in europe they are not let on the field for events (Normally). If your heart is set on it it can be done in the matter of days. I've seen people accomplish this in two weeks of riding while others have never accomplished it. As to their status in the Brigade? EN avant Rin tin tin.
