Gentlemen and Ladies,
The 2nd wedding this year (my son’s this time, daughter was in May), Thanksgiving and deer season are finally finished and now it is time to get back to work before the Christmas holiday eats up the rest of December.
Speaking of eating, the menu (as designed by Janet and yours truly) is set and so is the dinner cost for the “Truce”. So, here goes.
The meal will be Saturday evening in the Tavern and will be done in the Regency style. There are five courses with “removes” (take the dirty plates away) after each course. As was the style of the time, this is a huge meal and will take a couple of hours to finish.
1st course- Cream of Mushroom soup with nutmeg
Sourdough bread and rolls with butter and jam.
Remove
2nd course- Brown sugar and honey glazed Ham
Deep Fried Turkey
Bread Dressing with Gravy
Corn Soufflé
Buttered Squash
Remove
3rd course- Solomon Grundy (salad)
Selection of Cheeses
Remove
4th course- Beef and Roasted Vegetable Ragout
Wild Rice and Sausage with mushrooms
Cinnamon Apple compote
Remove
5th course- Assorted desserts
Cost for the meal is $15.00 per person payable on Saturday during the day. You will need to bring the following:
1 or 2 place settings per person including bowls for soup and salad. (Water will be available for rinsing dishes between courses.)
Silverware and glassware.
Liquor, beer and/or wine.
We are hoping to keep the meal as period as possible.
During the day on Saturday you are free to do whatever program you or your unit needs or wishes to accomplish - meetings, drill, photograph or seminar sessions. If there is enough interest Ken Hall will put on a program during the day on packing the cavalry valise. If anyone else has a seminar they wish to lead, just let me know and we will put together a schedule.
Remember this program is weather dependent. We will change to the February date if the weather makes the roads impassable for the January weekend. All units will need to get an accurate count of numbers attending by Tuesday, January 8th to Ken Hall via email or phone. This information is absolutely vital for meal planning and cabin assignments. If we have to go with the postponed date, then the count will be due on February 4th.
Additionally remember the Regency meal is the only food being provided during the weekend. Units are responsible for their own meals during the rest of the time.
Enjoy this oppoutunity to get together, exchange ideas and have a great Regency meal with all our reenacting friends.
