Posted by Chris Franke The colback is constructed from a leather casque 250mm in the front and 277mm at the back the diameter at the top is 250mm.The flames vary somewhat but I have found the length to be approximately 450mm in length total the amount of flame measured from the top of the fur hanging down the outside of the colback is normally 250mm and 220mm in width of course the diameter being 250mm. The plume holder for hussards was placed in the front and for chasseur de la garde on the left hand side. The cords and racquets were not normally worn in battle rather placed in the flame inside the casque with the all weather piece on top. If you have a fax no I can send you my diagrames of the construction. It is in French however.

Chef d'escadron 7e hussards.
The article is taken from the french.
The weather protective insert can either be of leather or oil skin, as both were used when the flame was placed inside the colback.
