It appears there were differing ideas as to the usefulness of a bayonet. The Prussians did not issue bayonet scabbards - the bayonet was kept fixed to the musket. Incredibly awkward arrangement and I imagine constant attention had to be paid to the thing in order to avoid skewering your buddy by accident.
