Spurs whatever their design add very nicely to give a complete an impression. However, cavalry reenactors who only ride one or two events a year and do not own their own horse should never wear spurs on horseback. Without saddletime, the sometime riders usually let their feet turn out and flop around. This is very bad for the poor horse that gets spurred constantly and when he picks up speed gets reined back. The rider then complains that the horse is unruley. With the constant spurring and checking the horse ends up with dead sides and a hard mouth and a bad reputation from the inept rider who naturally thinks he is LaSalle reincarnated. Forget the spurs, do not buy them or leave them at home. Spend the money on other gear or riding lessons, with special emphasis on conrol of the feet, hands and balance. Just my two cents.
