The King's Pantomime itself is an institution. The rotation of pantomime derives from the pantomime touring circuit that used to exist between the Theatre Royal Newcastle, Kings Edinburgh and Kings Glasgow - each sharing the costs of mountain a new production each year, which would start in Edinburgh and travel to to the other two venues the following 2 years.
The King's upholds a strong traditional element, and sticking to the titles its used for 4 decades is a major feature of this. Frankly, even today its much cheaper for the King's to stage a production which refreshes a set made 20 years ago - and yet still draws in the biggest pantomime audience in Scotland!
The Glasgow Pavilion on the other hand was always more willing to pick new and exciting titles eg. this year it's The New Adventures of Pinnochio.

: I've never seen a Glasgow panto as its a bit
: far for me but don't the audiences get bored
: with the same subjects all of the time?
: They seem to do Cinderella and aladdin quite
: a bit and with roughly the same people and
: from what others say the same sets and
: scripts.

: Hmm... another Aladdin. I wonder if they'll
: get Eric Potts back again as Twankey? I
: hope Karen Dunbar takes a role other than
: dame. She's hilarious - love her, but she's
: definately NOT a dame - comic empress,
: fairy, spirit or even genie but not Twankey,
: please.
:
: FFE need to cast a decent Scottish male dame
: - have a look around, there's some decent
: talent! Iain Gouck is at Motherwell this
: year, I think his time has come to take to
: the King's stage, he's fab and so funny.
:
: Would be interesting to see Gregor Fisher as
: dame.
:
: Perhaps Snow White will be put on the back
: burner for next year?

: FFE have said that its a brand new show, new
: sets etc..., however I remember reading that
: about last year's Cinderella...! Last year's
: was not as bad as I had anticipated, altho
: it was certainly my least favourite out of
: the 6 pantomimes I saw last season. Was
: really looking forward to Elaine's return
: too.

: Sigh i will also definatley be trying to get
: a
: refund if not i simply wont go and i will
: try to see Cinderella in Wolverhampton. But
: i was really looking forward to Snow White

: I certainly won't be going to see the show -
: at last years 'Cinderella', I was going to
: go to the pub for the second act of the
: show. It's such a shame. Would have ventured
: up to Scotland to see the show if it had
: those four names in.

:
: Its a real shame that Snow White didnt
: happen especially as it would have been
: great to have had Elaine C Smith and Andy
: gray back together, Last years Cinderella
: left a lot to be desired as did Sleeping
: Beauty, lets hope that we dont have the
: really wooden prince back again that with
: Dunbar again would be to much to cope with,
: Also wouldnt it have better to have had
: Dunbar as the Empress, she is not a
: pantomime dame. I think I will be booking
: my tickets to see Elaine C Smith at Aberdeen
: in Cinderella and will hope that the her and
: andy will be back next year.

: Its a very different design this year and a
: brand new script. This show is going to be
: very magical

: NOT AGAIN!
:
: I wont be going as i have seen Aladdin SO
: many times at The Kings - I bet the cave is
: the same gold set with the blue plate design
: finale...yawn!

: Was really looking forward to SNow White
: something New, But think Aladdin will be
: great.

: As reported in the Evening Times, FFE
: entertainment have announced that they have
: changed this year's pantomime from Snow
: White to Aladdin. (sigh!)
:
: Andy Gray apparently pulled out due to other
: work commitments, and Elaine C Smith was set
: to return, however pulled out because Andy
: Gray had.
:
: So the current main line up is Gerard Kelly
: and Karen Dunbar for Aladdin.
:
: And there was me looking forward to
: something different!
