The main effect I believe is the short school holidays that we have now- schools break up much later than they used to, and often go back almost as soon as New Year's Day is over. That can lead to shorter panto runs- some opt to start earlier and rely on school parties before term ends, others hope to gain school parties after New Year, but most runs are finishing earlier as a result.
