I'm not arguing that the local economy(hotels bars restaurants etc) itself wouldnt be impacted by theatre closures, they would without a doubt. I just question that panto itself would have as big an impact on hotels. Pantos tend to draw more locals who will go to whichever panto is local to them and within budget. Only hardcore panto fans will likely travel across the UK and see multiple productions. Major tours such as the Lion King will draw people from further afield. And no the Mayflower doesnt own the pub next door. They owned the ovation restaurant which is located on the higher floors of the theatre and wont be reopening after the pandemic
