Most venues that are commercial are purely receiving theatres and therefore don't produce any work or have any producers in the building. So they are venues that take touring work all year round from other producers and other companies.
Financial deals vary from venue to venue but most venues are a box office split not a theatre rent. There are then often additional charges called a "contra".
Often it's more cost effective for the venues to not self-produce because the companies use stock sets, costumes, effects, etc instead of the venue having to have new made each season. Also companies have relationships with agents and stars and will be able to attract different calibre of talent and stars. Finally pantomime is such a unique art form that it often makes more sense to use a specialist company like Qdos than hire a producer in-house to produce the panto.
