Aladdin which was changed from its original location (various Middle Eastern cities) to be set in China because the victorians were obsessed with China and so it was just a fashion choice at the time? The Aladdin that has changed the key names of almost all the characters, most of the key plot points and virtually every setting in the last 100 years?
Beauty and the beast which although being originally french was placed in a Medieval English setting for most of the 20th century and only went back to the french influence because of the success of the Disney movie. The same beauty and the beast which bares almost no relation to the original story (about a father basically selling his daughter in to marriage)and which had had all the key plot points and character names radically altered by every author his created a script for it?
Yes whatever will we do if just one tiny point of a panto is changed to reflect modern expectations..... as has happened to EVERY Panto production that has ever taken place in the history of pantomime?
And what about the fact that just in one Panto season you could see 5 different productions of the same title and every one will have huge differences in character, plot and setting to the others?
And please stop the histrionics with “they’ll ban dames” or that we should all share you panic because “this could happen”. On that basis they could decide that all pantos are performed in french on sets made of cheese with all the songs being jazz reinterpretations of classic African folk songs....
we should all start panicking apparently because that too /could/ happen
