If qdos put on shows in their regional venues then yes it will help some regional venues and in turn the businesses around them, especially those independent ones like the Mayflower and Birmingham Hippodrome for example. You also need venues capable of operating under social distancing and still being financially viable, so again it has to be the bigger theatres. Its impossible to help everyone, especially this short notice. As for performers, you need names to draw people in, even more so this year. Cinemas have struggled to get back without any sure fire blockbusters. Theatre will need the same. And I'm not sure there will be ensembles etc due to social distancing. I suspect much of this decision is also practical. No way could this money be dispersed to smaller and individual theatres and companies in time for christmas. By the time the money is applied for, approved and then paid it would be too late.
