My best advice to you is that you get a Herald, give that to your wife and tear the guts out of a modern car, then enjoy the Herald at weekends! I am not trying to stop you from owning a Herald, I am trying to prevent you from not enjoying one! I believe there are some aftermarket hard tops available but possibly not new and some are not good looking! Graham. --Previous Message--

Hi Toby
A 13/60 will do 1500 miles a week, they were designed as daily drivers from new, however, they are old cars and require routine maintenance at lower intervals than your modern wheels, 4 weeks is going to be a 6 month service, and then there are the bits which will need replacing at each mot if you do that many miles except maybe if they are on the motorway. These will almost certainly include the lower steering column coupling (I used to routinely get 14000 - 20000 miles from mine, 18 months ish) nylon bushes in the trunnions, half shaft UJ's, and yokes every fourth or fifth UJ, this means new shafts! Does your transport have to be absolutely reliable? These cars are not, they will occaisionally throw up "unsceduled" maintenance issues which will prevent you from using them.
Also the running costs, you will at best get low 30's MPG from a Herald how does this compare to your Eurobox?
: Hey gang,
: I'm looking at buying a new car and giving my
: current Laguna to my lovely lady. I've always
: wanted a 13/60 Convertible, and now it's
: within my budget I'm really tempted - BUT, can
: you guys give me some advice on the following?
: 1. I'm a very busy musician, and can travel
: anything up to 1500 miles a week and possibly
: more. Is a Herald going to be able to take
: this?
: 2. Is there such a thing as a hard top for the
: convertible? I'm a bit lacking in the garage
: department!
: 3. Are the running costs comparible to my
: current Laguna/a modern car? I'm obviously
: broke as I'm a professional musician!
: Any advice, stories etc would be more than
: appreciated.
: Many thanks for your time,
: Toby
