If a dog is for rescue only, it is because there are issues (aggression, behavior/temperament, etc.) which most private adopters re not prepared to deal with. If you have experience with this breed, call the shelter director to discuss the dog's issues and what he needs. They might feel comfortable adopting to you if guidelines, etc. are discussed and agreed upon. Foster homes that rescues use are used to dealing with all types of problems and usually have the patience, time, expertise required to deal with them, more so than the average private adopter.
