When not in action, he had a sporty red jacket, open to reveal his costume underneath, and gray slacks. Then when he went into action, the jacket and pants came off and he had a slight variation of his Busiek-era costume minus the abundance of ionic energy dots. I always thought the Perez design from that Avengers run was perfectly fine as a superhero costume without the energy form, and the red sport coat was a good update of the rationale behind the safari jacket look. But nobody else caught on to the update.
Not to reply to my own post, but for all the attention this "makeover" is getting, I thought an update was done perfectly in his first few Ms. Marvel appearances to no fanfare whatsoever.
