: Why has Simon Williams been so hard to costume
: through the years? He's been second only to
: the Wasp for sheer number of costumes but
: the majority of hers are attractive.
: Simon's are not. The only hero who comes
: close to rivalling Simon's sartorial errors
: is Kitty Pryde. The original look is okay
: when you take into account that it was
: designed in the early Sixties but every
: other one doesn't have that excuse. True,
: the most horrific looks were the result of
: Al Milgrom's admittedly poor design sense
: (for costumes. I do love his penciling) but
: even Perez failed to knock it out of the
: park and look at his history! I think the
: only attractive look Simon's ever had is the
: plain black look with the big red W and that
: gets hidden inside a purple haze more often
: or not. Would it make a good subplot or
: story point what it is about Simon that he
: keeps choosing these ghastly looks?

I think the problem is there is only so much you can do with a "strong guy". You want him in something that shows off his muscles yet you don't want him too bare like Namor, Hulk or Hercules, it's not the characters style. He's not a flashy guy so the costume can't be too flamboyant, either. The one from his ongoing was perfect, IMO(Although I wouldn't mind seeing him in a blue and red version of his original costume...mask and goggles and all, if he's feeling retro.). And I'm still in the minority who likes him going "ionic".
