: I have a love/hate relationship with Bendis.
: I’ve been keeping up with the Avengers
: titles and I have to agree with Legs about
: the writing. Bendis only seems to focus on a
: select few characters to develop and the
: rest just seem to be relegated to background
: characters that only seem to toss out
: banter.
:
: The thing I notice about his writing is he
: takes an incredibly long time to get to the
: point with some things so whatever’s going
: on with Wonder Man we might not know what’s
: really happening with the character until
: Avengers Annual 1 where the story continues
: or we’ll be left hanging until he gets round
: to him again in the series.
:
: That being said Wonder Man’s erratic
: behavior and the weirdness of his powers the
: few times he’s been in the Avengers titles
: before this annual is making me think he’s
: being controlled by Count Nefaria again.
:
: Wondy struggling with his powers, his
: erratic behavior and anger towards the
: Avengers and then he forms a team with Atlas
: as one of its members. On top of this he
: went right for Ms. Marvel and spent the
: entire fight beating her up and the last
: time Nefaria was in the comics Ms Marvel was
: the one who beat the crap out of him.
:
: All this combined with Bendis love of
: characters that manipulate/mind control
: people makes me think it will be Nefaria.
: Either that or he’ll retread the whole
: “Wonder Man is insane and has always been
: insane we just didn’t know it” gimmick like
: he’s been doing with the Scarlet Witch which
: will be a huge disappointment to me if he
: goes down that path.
:
: I also hate that nothing has ever been
: brought up again about Wondy being
: blackmailed into joining the intitive.
:
: That being said I do like seeing Simon
: leading a team and being successful at it. I
: just wish he wasn’t falling back into being
: a bad guy to do it.

:
: I have to agree with this. This is another
: story of Wonder Man's ionic nature getting
: him crazy, it has been done before the only
: new positive aspect is seeing him as a
: leader.

: Has anyone read this yet? I don't read any
: Avenger titles mainly because I don't like
: the writing style of Bendis. I picked this
: up only because I'm a Wonder Man fan. That
: being said after reading the issue I was
: reminded as to why I don't like Bendis
: writing. There was no character development
: for any of the Revengers or Avengers except
: for a few snide comments here and there.
: You would think that characters like Thing
: who is one of Wondy's best friends and
: Spider Man would try to reason with Wondy.
: Only Ms Marvel tried to talk to Wondy and
: get him to stop the assault. At the end you
: ask yourself what was the purpose of it all?
: Does Wondy expect the Avengers to just
: disband after all is said and done? The only
: positive thing about the issue is Wondy
: looking like a effective leader and the team
: following his instructions.
