You know sooner or later, Wonder Man will go against his principals and come out of the blue to help the team. But in the mean time, I don't mind Remender building on Simon by having him on "non-avenging" duty. Adding a little depth to the character can only help in the long run. I actually look forward to Wondy playing the P.R. guy; seeing him in "civilian life" with the huge responsibility to help human-mutant relations. It's a part of Simon we really haven't seen before, even in his own series. Have we really ever seen what Wonder Man does when he isn't fighting crime? Aside from a few off panel acting gigs, not really.(I always wanted to see him running his Second Chances Foundation, so this is probably the closest we'll get, for now.) The interactions with the others should be interesting. Will people like Wolverine respect what Simon's doing or will they think he's "copping out"? Plus, he'll probably get more panel time being "behind the scenes" than if he were wallpaper during battle scenes.
