Posted by Lenord There is an algorythm(sp) that Mel uses in the scope.exe software. It was published in S& T a long time ago. It computes the distance to the object based on the location of the stars the scope is aligned to. This computation is done for each axis. Mel has a page about it at the link below. It is neat to see a scope slew in both axis' for a bit, then move one axis some more, then move each a tiny bit. The last little bit compensates for the time it took to slew the scope for each axis, compensate for gear backlash and mount error corrections. HTH --Previous Message--

Hi Joanna,
The math that is involved is not difficult but would take an average person with a pen and paper a lot longer to do.
All of this is done in the background, the user never see's it, BTW.
