Posted by Lenord I'll cc this to your e-mail address as well. That is a most impressive mount indeed !! 3 scopes in one ! It appears to have gearing on each axis already. I can see cables to the Dec. axis and a motor on the RA. If those are unipolar steppers, meeting certain specs., then a pcb kit and laptop and some wiring is all you need. This is assuming that the gear ratio's are high enough. They need to be above 500:1 on each axis for good accuracy. If they are not, a simple gearhead can be attached to the stepper and away you go. Hi Ed,
I'll be more than happy to take a stab at this mount.
Lenord
: Leonard: Our club has a 20" Astro Works
: Newtonian telescope mounted on an
: equaltorial mount. We use this scope at
: our public star parties. We want to
: convert this scope to a goto scope
: sometime in the near future. The O.T.A.
: weighs about 200# at present. We are
: getting a new zerodur mirror donated to
: the club by Brashear L.P., the maker of
: the 8.2 meter Subaru primary mirror.
: The new mirror will weigh about 50# more than
: the present mirror. I know we can't send
: you the mount. We may have drawings, or we
: can get you whatever you need to do the
: project. If you are interested in doing
: this project please email me .
: I am including our club website address
: below. To find a picture of this scope
: hit the FACILITIES button on the side bar,
: then go down to MANKA MEMORIAL TELESCOPE.
: We have buttons there for different
: resolutions.
: I also hope to get the gear and bracket set
: from you for my CG-5 mount in the near
: future.
