Posted by Lenord I have not heard of anyone using an Equatorial mount solely for wide field astro pics without a telescopes of some sort. I do know there is such a thing as a barn door mount or scotch mount that allows for basic imaging without a telescope. These are typically small items that are home made and very easy to make and operate. You could get a CG-5 and convert it to GoTo, use it without a telescope for astro pics. The hardest programming part would be pressing the letter T when it boots up to turn on tracking. If you wanted later on, you could affix a telescope, up to an 8" SCT on a CG-5 with a guide scope and ccd camera. Guide could be added later on to find interesting objects to photograph. There are folks doing that now. As far as PEC is concerned, you can take out whatever PE there is from the drivetrain with Mel's system. Makes no difference which motor you use, PE can be compensated for via the software. Autoguiders do work on the system as well. A ST-4, an STV and a Starlight Express have all been used to autoguide as well as a few home brew quick cams. These take out PE too. Take Care

Hi Antonio,
Lenord
: Hi, I'd like to know if any of you guys has
: ever heard of a mount one can use with the
: camera alone, to shoot wide-angle pictures
: of the heavens above. I've seen the new
: Kenko Single axis tracking mount on the
: Hutech website and I'm aware of something
: made in the past by Byers. Can anybody
: help? Of course, it'd be nice if the mount
: were fully "balanceable" and had
: provisions for guiding with a little
: refractor and/or a CCD autoguider...or am
: I asking for too much? Probably I'd be
: better off buying something like the GM8
: from Losmandy or a CG-something from
: Celestron, but they tend to have features
: (databases of objects, etc.) I'm not
: interested in: infact I intend to aim the
: camera via The Sky or Guide software. Of
: course this would be at the maximum level
: of system complexity, but the basic idea
: is: get something that can be very easy to
: use BUT can get really precise if you so
: wish/need.
: Thanks
: Antonio
