Question about the whole procedure of Goto

Just curious to know, how does a telescope
move to get to a Goto Location. Is it the shortest
path of direction? I am not so mechanically
inclined but wondered how it at all happens.
If a dual drive telescope has Goto Capability
how does it determine, who moves for how long
in one direction and then when to change it
to a new direction.
Sorry for the mess of a question. I hope its clear.
