The 2009 Weaver Descent race is being held on Sunday 1st March.
The race is approximately 17 miles and goes from Winsford Flash (http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=winsford+flash&countryCode=GB#map=53.19321,-2.5161|14|4&bd=useful_information&loc=GB:53.19321:-2.5161:14|winsford%20flash|Winsford,%20Cheshire,%20England,%20CW7%2003) to Runcorn Canoe Club (http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=winsford+flash&countryCode=GB#map=53.31607,-2.71254|16|4&bd=useful_information&loc=GB:53.31105:-2.71254:16|WA7%204XT|WA7%204XT). As you might expect from the name, it's all on the river Weaver.
There are several portages in the race which can be used to break the distance into approximately 6 mile stages if the whole distance seems a bit too far!
The race is open to K1, K2, C1 or C2 craft. There is a handicap of 2 minutes per division to give the less experienced paddlers a cahnce at the medals.
MADCC has a shed full of K1 and K2 racing boats for people to use - the grey Stiletto K2 is reserved for Kerrian/Sylvia - but the rest are available for use.
